Look at the size of that comet Rosetta is chasing compared to a 747!
Holy crap, this is amazing. Imgur user grouchymcsurly made this incredible size comparison between the stinky comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and a Boeing 747-400. It really puts it in perspective. This thing is incredibly huge!

The Nexus 9 Is Android's iPad Air
It's been nearly two years since we've seen a new Nexus tablet, but the wait is over. Alongside a new Nexus 6 phone, the Nexus Player, and a new version of Android, the Nexus 9 is finally official. It's like the iPad Air, but Android.
Just as the rumors indicated, the new Nexus 9 is a 9-inch tablet made by HTC, sporting an Nvidia Tegra K1 for a brain along with a Kepler DX11 GPU, front-facing speakers, a 2048 x 1440 281 PPI LCD screen, and a 6700 mAh battery. It's got a nice aluminum trim, and on the back it has that familiar soft-touch carbonate back and "Nexus" branding, like an upscaled Nexus 5. And it's available in white and black and tan. And also, if you feel like Surfacing it up, the Nexus 9 has a an optional keyboard case that will retail for (a hefty) $220.
It's a Nexus device launching around the same time as a major revision of Android, so naturally it'll come loaded up with Android Lollipop. It's available for pre-order starting October 17th, with a starting price of $400.
So what happened to the Nexus 7? It's hard to say. The tablet's been out of stock for ages now, and Google's snazzy new Nexus landing page features the 5, the 6, and the 9. But in a world where phones are creeping up on 6-inches, the case for a 7-inch tablet—especially one with a slim 16:9 aspect ratio like the Nexus 7's—is harder than ever to make. In this brave new Google world, it looks like you've got your pick of phones, bigger phones, and tablets.

Android 5.0 Lollipop: More Than Just Material Design
Google just announced the release of the latest version of Android. It's called Android Lollipop, and as we already knew, it is damn pretty. There's a lot more to the updated operating system than a flashy look-and-feel powered by the new Material design interface, though. Android Lollipop is also a powerhouse.
Google describes Lollipop as its "largest, most ambitious release on Android." The company touts Lollipop's flexibility and says it wants Lollipop to excel across multiple platforms. While the new Android release hits at the same time as three brand whew Google-designed devices, the slick operating system is actually designed to work even on entry-level devices, as it's capable of running on just 512-megabytes of memory. It's a push that started way back with KitKat, and is continuing on to make sure Material design's slickest features should work on low-end devices, too. This ensures that the Chinese and Indian markets don't miss out on the best of Lollipop and that Android devices everywhere can look and feel the same.
The operating system is also very much tuned to the post-Snowden era, since comes with encryption on by default. It also features the ability to switch between different user profiles on the same phone. That's a nice little feature for parents who want to let their kids use their phones without letting their kids read their text messages.
That idea of quick, easy-switching works across various devices as well. Lollipop is designed to make moving from one Android device to another a completely seamless experience. These features will even work with the Nexus Player, the first official Android TV. So you could start watching one movie on the Nexus Player, switch to a Nexus tablet when walking around your house, and then pick up where you left off as you head out the door with your Nexus phone. It's a lot like Apple's OS X Yosemite feature, Handoff.
Speaking of flexibility, Android Lollipop doesn't disappoint when it comes to the ability to customize new features like notifications on the lockscreen. While lockscreen notifications have been available for ages on iOS, Android is expanding its previous lockscreen widgetry to notifications as well, offering characteristically impressive level of control. You can pick what apps and people generate notifications because you may not be interested in being interrupted at dinner by a notification from your college roommate, but you do want to know if your mom calls. With Android Lollipop, you can make your device do what you want it to do.
All that said, Material design and all the 3D-interaction is still a pretty exciting addition to the Android ecosystem. The innovative new standard primarily standardizes and simplifies the Android UI, but it also takes an innovative approach to how design should work across multiples devices. Material design operates on several layers with animations, shadows, and effects that mimic the behavior of real material. That kind of three-dimensionality is geared towards making Android design as useful on a smartwatch as it is on a tablet.
Android Lollipop comes with all three new Nexus products—the Nexus 6, the Nexus 9, and the Nexus Player—which hit stores in November. From there, expect individual carriers to roll out their own Lollipop-powered devices in the months that follow.

Google's Nexus 6 Superphone Is Here, and It's a Monster
The long-awaited (and long-rumored) Nexus 6, the 6-inch (technically 5.96) monster phablet, is finally, officially here. The Nexus 6, like its predecessors before it, will be the first device in the world to ship with Android's new operating system, Lollipop. It's the purest vision of what an Android phone should be. Apparently Android phones should be huge.
As all those rumors suggested, the Nexus 6 is basically a super-sized and super-spec'd Moto X, which Motorola released this the summer. It comes with the a simply massive 5.96-inch 2K screen, a speedy snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of onboard storage (a 64GB version is also available). This is all powered by a 3,220 mAh battery, supported by Motorola's Turbo Charger ability to get 6 hours of battery life after only 15 minutes of charging.
Besides its Kaiju-esque size, the Nexus 6 retains many elements of the Moto X's design. Google keeps the same dual speaker set up, aluminum trim along the edges and the ring flash on the back. The camera itself is a 13-megapixel sensor, also like the Moto X, but with optical image stabilization for better low-light images and HDR+. Samsung's new Galaxy Note 4 and Apple's own phablet, the iPhone 6 Plus, also came with this nifty feature, so it seems like a big phone requirement at this point.
As for Lollipop, it will be available stock on the new Nexus 6 and HTC's Nexus 9 tablet, which was also revealed today along with Nexus Player, a collaboration with ASUS that "is a streaming media player for movies, music and videos," according to Google. Lollipop will arrive for Nexus 5, 7, and 10 and Google Play edition devices within a few weeks.
Google's decision to team up with Motorola was motivated, in part, by their actual breakup. When Google sold off Motorola to Lenovo earlier this year, the split allowed Google to turn around and work with Motorola on new devices and completely avoid first-party favoritism among manufacturers.
It's clear from the Nexus website that Google believes the Nexus 5 to be an integral part of the family as a low-cost, small-sized (in comparison) option for customers not ready to accept the phablet way of things. However, Asus' Nexus 7 tablet appears to be facing extinction as every version of the device is out of stock on the Google Play Store and isn't part of the official Nexus lineup. After all, do you really need a 7-inch tablet when you have a 6-inch phone?
Motorola says the device will come in two colors (pictured above) called Midnight Blue and Cloud White. Pre-orders will be available on October 29th for $650 through the Google Play Store and shipping will begin in November. Unlocked versions will be available in the Play Store and carrier versions from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon. [Google Official Blog]
