A closer look at the new Mail app for Windows 8.1

Microsoft demonstrated its new Mail app for Windows 8.1 earlier this week during the Build keynote, but the company has started to share even more details about the upcoming overhaul. While the Mail app has gradually been getting better in Windows 8, the Windows 8.1 version opens up new features like drag and drop support, and sections to filter specific emails. During a Build session on Friday, Microsoft's Jeremy Epling walked through most of the new improvements in Mail.

Firefox 23 beta, μεγαλύτερη ασφάλεια και sharing με ένα κλικ

Η νέα έκδοση του Firefox 23 beta είναι διαθέσιμη για download με σημαντικές αλλαγές και βελτιώσεις για όλους. Όπως πάντα, η εγκατάσταση μιας δοκιμαστικής έκδοσης του Firefox μπορεί να δημιουργήσει προβλήματα.

Αν ξέρετε τι κάνετε και έχετε κρατήσει backup από το profile, τότε προχωρήστε άφοβα στο download του Firefox 23 beta. Τα νέα χαρακτηριστικά και δυνατότητες αξίζουν το ρίσκο γιατί έχουν να κάνουν με ασφάλεια και sharing σε social networks. Πλέον με ένα μόνο κλικ μπορείτε να φέρετε όλη την δραστηριότητα των social networks στο sidebar του Firefox και οπουδήποτε μέσα στον browser. Ο Firefox 23 ενσωματώνει για πρώτη φορά το Social API για απεριόριστες δυνατότητες sharing.

Σημαντική είναι επίσης και η προσθήκη μηχανισμών ελέγχου για την ασφάλεια των χρηστών στο internet. Ο Firefox 23 beta υποστηρίζει πλέον “Mixed content blocking enabled to protects users from man-in-the-middle attacks and eavesdroppers on HTTPS pages” κάτι που πρακτικά σημαίνει ότι αυτός που θα προσπαθήσει να κλέψει δεδομένα και προσωπικά στοιχεία και βρίσκεται ανάμεσα στον Firefox και το site θα τα βρει σκούρα.

Chrome OS dev channel gains Quickoffice powers, lets users edit native Excel and Word files

Chrome OS hardware continues to proliferate, and on the software front, Google continues to add features to the platform in the hopes of persuading more folks to exit the traditional PC paradigm. Today marks a significant step in achieving that latter goal, as the dev channel of Chrome OS has received the ability to edit Excel and Word files thanks to Quickoffice integration. While it's not ready for public consumption just yet, it shows that Google's getting close to fulfilling its promise to deliver native doc editing to the Pixel and other Chromebooks.

Should you be among those on the dev channel of Chrome OS, you can enable the functionality now by going to chrome://flags, enabling document editing and restarting your machine. According to developer François Beaufort -- the man who discovered the functionality -- editing's still a glitchy process, but the more folks that use the feature now, the faster the problems can be found and fixed. The power of productivity is in your hands, people, so get cracking squashing those bugs!

Daft Punk remix του Get Lucky και ολόκληρου του Random Access Memories Memories

Μερικά πράγματα δεν γίνονται μέχρι να γίνουν. Στην περίπτωση των Daft Punk το νέο άλμπουμ Random Access Memories Memories έχει επίσημα πλέον το δικό του remix και μάλιστα από τα ίδια τα ρομπότ.

Get Lucky – Daft Punk remix

Όπως έχουν δηλώσει οι ίδιοι οι Daft Punk, δεν συνηθίζουν να κάνουν remix της δουλειάς τους. Αυτή την φορά όμως, το Random Access Memories Memories αποτελεί εξαίρεση και ευκαιρία δημιουργίας για το group. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι γνωστά κομμάτια όπως το Get Lucky αποκτούν διαφορετικό ήχο από τους ίδιους τους Daft Punk και μεγαλύτερη διάρκεια. Το Get Lucky μόλις έγινε δέκα ολόκληρα λεπτά και ο Pharrell χάνεται κάπου ανάμεσα στους Daft Punk.

Αν είστε σε χώρα που το Spotify λειτουργεί ελεύθερα τότε θα ακούσετε και τα 10 λεπτά του Daft Punk remix Get Lucky εδώ.

Αν πιστέψουμε το Γαλλικό site που δημοσιεύει τις αποκλειστικές φωτογραφίες, κοιτάμε χιλιάδες μπαταρίες iPhone 5S έτοιμες για την γραμμή παραγωγής. Η μπαταρία του iPhone 5S μοιάζουν εξωτερικά με την μπαταρία του iPhone 5 αλλά το εσωτερικό της κρύβει μια ευχάριστη έκπληξη. Η χωρητικότητα της νέας μπαταρίας του iPhone 5S είναι 5.92 Whr σε αντίθεση με την μπαταρία του iPhone 5 που φτάνει τα 5.45 Whr.

Αν υποθέσουμε ότι οι φωτογραφίες είναι αληθινές αυτό σημαίνει ότι η Apple έχει βάλει μπροστά τις μηχανές και παράγει χιλιάδες iPhone 5S καθημερινά ώστε να είναι έτοιμη για τον Σεπτέμβριο 2013. Τότε αναμένεται να παρουσιάσει το iPhone 5S μαζί με το ολοκαίνουριο iOS 7.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, η νέα έκδοση του Android σε leaked ROM

Το Android 4.3 κυκλοφορεί ελεύθερο και δεν φαίνεται να διαφέρει σημαντικά από το Android 4.2.2. Η leaked ROM είναι διαθέσιμη για το Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition εδώ και τώρα.

Πως και γιατί βρέθηκε στα χέρια κάποιων ο κώδικας του Android 4.3 είναι ένα θέμα που απασχολεί το Google. Για όλους τους άλλους αυτό που ενδιαφέρει είναι οι αλλαγές μεταξύ Android 4.2 και Android 4.3. Αλλαγές που δεν φαίνεται να υπάρχουν με την νέα έκδοση του Android 4.3 να είναι περισσότερο μια μικρή αναβάθμιση παρά κάτι παραπάνω. Αυτό τουλάχιστον λένε όσοι δοκίμασαν το νέο Android 4.3 στο Galaxy S4 και το Nexus 4.

ΔΕΣ: Το νέο Huawei Ascend P6 Google Edition

Το .apk για την κάμερα έχει ήδη κυκλοφορήσει από εχθές αλλά τώρα με την νέα leaked ROM το Android 4.3 είναι ολοκληρωμένο. Θα έχει ενδιαφέρον να δούμε τι νέα API θα ενσωματώσει το Google στο Android 4.3 και αν πράγματι η έκδοση αυτή είναι μια μικρή αναβάθμιση αντί για κάτι πιο σημαντικό, όπως το φημολογούμενο Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

Facebook rolls out hashtag support for mobile web and related searches

Clickable hashtags are a major new Facebook feature, and now the social network is bringing them to the next level by rolling out related searches and mobile availability. We're talking about its mobile site and (unfortunately) not its iOS and Android apps, making the former a better choice for browsing public status updates on the go. The introduction of related searches also makes it easier to discover new conversations, as searching for a particular hashtag brings up similar ones. Facebook analyzes which terms are often posted together, so looking for #equality also brings up posts tagged with #lgbt or #pride. These updates will soon show up on your accounts if they haven't yet, and unless you despise hashtags, they're icing on the cake.

Android 4.3 spotted on Samsung Galaxy S 4, available to test now

A new version of Android (4.3, and still called Jelly Bean) is already doing the testing rounds on Samsung's Galaxy S 4 and thanks to some porting work from SAMMobile, it's apparently working on both the Google Play and original iterations. We've caught a glance of Android 4.3 on LG's Nexus 4 already, but we're now getting a second look at a refreshed camera interface, some minor design tweaks (like more regular appearances of a share button) and, well, we're still perusing the gallery for more nuggets. If you know what you're doing (and don't fear voiding your warranty) you can find the files at the source -- early reports suggest that the GS4 is "fully working" on this early build. We'll update this post if we find anything else new, but early impressions suggest it's a relatively gentle upgrade from the existing mobile OS.
