Google Buys Email Client Sparrow [Email]

Google Buys Email Client Sparrow Big news: Google just purchased Sparrow, makers of our favorite email app for the Mac and one of our favorites for the iPhone.

The Sparrow team posted the news at their site this morning. Whether Google will pull the plug on the app or continue to develop it is unclear, but the Sparrow development team will be moving to the Gmail team once the acquisition is complete.

Update: The Sparrow team sent out an email to its customers this morning to notify them of the acquisition. Sparrow CTO Dom Leca said in the note that because the team would be moving to work on Gmail, they "do not plan to release new features for the Sparrow apps." He did, however, say that they would continue to make them available, support the apps, and provide critical updates. In short—security and stability updates only, no new features or versions.
